A dining experience like no other
welcome to a special piece of New Zealand history...
This classic steam tug was one of the last of her kind. Originally named the Aucklander, she was delivered from Scotland all the way to Auckland in 1958.
She spent years towing and ship handling around the Auckland port until she was replaced by the technology of new engines. In 1986, a Wellington businessman by the name of Clem Griffiths purchased her to establish Wellington’s first and only floating restaurant.
After renaming the vessel Tapuhi II, the “Tugboat on the Bay” restaurant opened to the public at Oriental Bay in 1992. She’s undergone quite a few changes over the years, but to this day she continues to float proudly.
Now under new management, we hope to provide you with friendly service, delicious food and the best views of the harbour!
Come eat, drink and relax – you’re always welcome on our boat.
